I finished something!! Tackle it Tuesday.. and a procrastination challenge overcome!!

Perhaps some of you remember that I had a project purple going. Here is the post where I officially announced that I was trying to finish a purple project.  I also was hoping to finish this by the end of September!  Oh well, the sky didn't fall when October came and went, and it wasn't finished yet!!  So, here we are-- Nov. 10, 2008-- and it's finished!!

This project lasted over two years.  I think I knit and re-knit almost every piece.  After all of that, the cabled edges were the only thing left, besides putting it together and lining it.. with a zipper..

I had to hand-stitch the zipper in..

Some close-ups of the actual stitches..
Ta-Da!!!   It is a bulky weight wool for the body and sleeves.  The edges are a worsted weight in the same: Supreme Purple by Lamb's Pride.  The body (front and back) are a basket-weave stitch.  The arms are a stockinette stitch with the same basket-weave on the cuffs.  Around the edges are a cable stitch (larger at bottom).

When I sewed the zipper in, I made sure it wasn't visible from the front.

....Unfortunately, there is no pattern because I made it up as I went along! I can not recommend this method!!  If you enjoy experimenting, you may like to do it this way.  I read these books as a help: Design the Sweater of your Dreams and Knitting on the Edge.  For normal people, try finding a pattern!  Ugh.  For more tackles, try visiting 5 Minutes for MOM.  For procrastination help, visit: Virtually Organized.

You are an inspiration! By the way, those donuts looked beyond yummy! I so want to try those but I have been trying not to deep fry. LOL Mmm, maybe as a Sunday treat one weekend. :)

Beautiful job! To say it was "late" would have been finishing it in the summer; but, now you look elegantly ready for winter.

Hi Bean,I love the sweater. It looks warm and comfy. Just in time for the winter blasts and drafty corners. The color looks great on you. You are amazing!

I am very impressed. I can follow a pattern, but design, especially something so detailed, is WAY beyond my hopes and dreams! How did you find the time?

I'm so sorry I forgot to comment on your gorgeous sweater...and major accomplishment of finishing at two year old project! I saw the sweater, thought, "Oh, it's the purple sweater! It's done!" But then I started commenting on your newer posts, and then my kids woke up from their nap, and I forgot that I never read the sweater post and saw all your pictures. Your sweater really is beautiful! I can hardly knit at all, so I am very impressed.

That is really beautiful! I'm even more amazed that you did that without a pattern. What an accomplishment. The only thing I can knit without a pattern is a hat. My brain would freeze up at anything more complicated. :)
